Dear LHS Members,
Since we last spoke to you at the start of the pandemic in March, we have had to cope with a very severe restriction to our daily lives. As we slowly emerge from the lockdown, it it clear that we will face a ‘new normal’, at least in the medium term. We still await announcements from Liverpool Hope University and other public institutions about when they intend to reopen the facilities we rely on to hold our meetings.
When they do so, it is certain to be under guidelines that will place lower limits on the numbers allowed to use them. As a consequence, a booking system may be necessary, to ensure we can effectively manage the facilities. We will let you know more as soon as we are advised by the University. We fully intend to restart our talks and four are still in place for the Autumn. All Societies are in this situation; no doubt you are also experiencing other examples in your daily lives.
During the lockdown, we have taken the opportunity to build a brand new website. We feel the current website is rather outdated and over-complicated. The new website will provide information about our events, publications, how to join and the latest news in a much more exciting format. For the first time, it will also provide a ‘Members Area’, which will enable members to enjoy the advantages of their subscription in a much more accessible way. The website is for you, to keep up to date with Society activities and to contribute your thoughts and ideas. When it is ready, please use it to keep up to date. We will let you know when development is complete and when we expect go live.
You will now have received this year’s publication of the Journal. Any member who hasn’t yet received a copy should let us know, via email or the website. We hope you enjoyed the attractive presentation and the stimulating new research on Liverpool subjects. The good news is that our Editor is already making plans to produce a full colour edition, to coincide with our 20th Anniversary in 2021! We would welcome articles from members; please send your thoughts on any submission to Ron Jones’ email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will post an update with further news on these topics in the coming weeks.
The very best of good wishes and stay safe,
Tony Melling Chairman
