DESCRIPTION:In 1910, a pioneering aviator achieved the first manned flight to Ireland, crossing the Irish Sea in a fragile early aeroplane. Battling wind, navigation uncertainty, and limited engine reliability, the journey proved heavier-than-air flight could link Britain and Ireland. The successful crossing captured public imagination, advanced aviation credibility, and demonstrated the strategic potential of aircraft for travel, communication, and future military and commercial use during the early twentieth century era.
Our speaker: Has lectured in History in FE and HE. A former Editor of the North West Labour History Journal, he remains on its Editorial Board. He has written and lectures on aspects of North West History, Irish History and Jazz. Now based in Manchester Eddie spent many years in Liverpool
